Abstract

Climate change poses a major challenge to urban systems globally, with its impacts expected to intensify in the coming decades. Although collective human efforts may help reduce the severity of these effects, scientific evidence suggests that some impacts are already occurring and will continue, regardless of mitigation efforts. Phenomena such as increased rainfall, storm surges, flooding, and urban heat islands are likely to affect numerous urban areas around the world, placing significant strain on urban infrastructure, populations, and services. Adaptation measures will almost certainly be necessary to address these challenges. In this context, urban planning emerges as a critical tool for implementing adaptive strategies in urban environments. Climate change, affect the change of behaviour of the stakeholders in the city. These changes are reflected also through diverse changes in the urban structure: morphological, organizational, functional, economic, social and the changes in the quality of the environment well-suited for fostering urban adaptation at various scales.
